What is Tip Calculator?
How It Works
Enter your bill amount, select or type a tip percentage, and choose how many people are splitting the bill. The calculator instantly shows the tip amount, total bill, and per-person breakdown. You can optionally round the total up or to the nearest whole number for convenience. A comparison table shows what different tip percentages would look like on your bill.
Formula
Tip Amount = Bill ร (Tip% / 100) Total = Bill + Tip Amount Per Person = Total / Number of People
Formula Explained
The tip is a percentage of the bill. Multiply the bill by the tip rate (as a decimal) to get the tip amount, then add it to the bill for the total. If splitting, divide the total evenly among the group. When rounding is enabled, the total is adjusted up (or to the nearest whole number) and the effective tip percentage recalculates accordingly.
Example
Bill: $85.50, Tip: 18%, Split: 2 people Tip Amount: $85.50 ร 0.18 = $15.39 Total: $85.50 + $15.39 = $100.89 Per Person: $100.89 / 2 = $50.45 Tip Per Person: $15.39 / 2 = $7.70 With "round up": Total = $101.00, effective tip = 18.13%
