What is Ovulation Calculator?
How It Works
Enter the first day of your last period and your average cycle length. The calculator estimates ovulation as 14 days before your next period and marks fertility levels for each day: period (menstruation), low (unlikely to conceive), medium (possible), high (likely), and peak (most likely โ ovulation day).
Formula
Ovulation Day = Cycle Start + (Cycle Length โ 14) Fertile Window = Ovulation โ 5 to Ovulation + 1 Peak Fertility = Ovulation day (~33% conception rate) High Fertility = Ovulation ยฑ 1โ2 days (~25%) Medium Fertility = Ovulation โ 3 to โ5 days (~10%)
Formula Explained
The luteal phase (from ovulation to next period) is consistently about 14 days. By subtracting 14 from cycle length, we estimate ovulation day. Conception probability varies by timing: the egg survives 12โ24 hours after release, while sperm survive up to 5 days. The 2 days before ovulation have the highest pregnancy rates.
Example
Last period: January 1, Cycle length: 28 days Ovulation: January 14 Fertile window: January 9โ15 Peak day: January 14 (~33% chance) High: January 12โ15 (~25% chance) Medium: January 9โ11 (~10% chance) Due date if conceived: October 8
Tips & Best Practices
- โTrack your cycle for at least 3 months before relying on predictions.
- โOvulation predictor kits (OPKs) detect the LH surge 24โ36 hours before ovulation.
- โBasal body temperature rises after ovulation โ chart daily for patterns.
- โCervical mucus becomes clear and stretchy (like egg whites) near ovulation.
- โHaving intercourse every 1โ2 days during the fertile window maximizes chances.
