How It Works

The calculator takes your date of birth and compares it against a target date (defaulting to today). It counts the full completed years first, then the remaining full months, then the remaining days. For total conversions, it accounts for leap years accurately — every 4 years, February has 29 days instead of 28, adding an extra day to that year. The tool uses JavaScript's date handling to ensure precision across all time zones and date formats.

Formula Explained

The core of age calculation involves subtracting dates in a hierarchical way. First, we find how many complete 12-month cycles have passed since birth — that is your age in years. Then we count the remaining months that have passed since your last birthday. Finally, we count the remaining days after those months. Leap years are handled by checking if any February 29 dates fall between the birth date and target date, and adding that extra day when they do.
