What is Time Zone Converter?

A time zone converter helps you translate a specific time from one time zone to another. Essential for remote workers, international teams, travelers, and anyone coordinating across regions. Our converter supports 28+ major time zones with automatic DST handling, live world clocks for 8 major cities, the ability to add multiple target zones for meeting planning, and a clean, instant display of converted times.

How It Works

Select a source time zone and set the date and time (or use "Live Now" for current time). Add one or more target time zones. The converter instantly shows the equivalent time in each zone, including DST adjustments and day-change indicators. World clocks update every second.

Formula

Target Time = Source Time โˆ’ Source UTC Offset + Target UTC Offset
Example: 2pm EST (UTC-5) to GMT (UTC+0) = 2pm + 5h = 7pm GMT

Formula Explained

Time zone conversion works by first converting the source time to UTC (by subtracting the source offset), then converting from UTC to the target zone (by adding the target offset). DST complicates this because offsets change seasonally. Our converter uses the browser's Intl API which automatically handles DST for all supported zones.

Example

Convert 2:00 PM New York (EST) to other zones: Los Angeles (PST): 11:00 AM (same day) London (GMT): 7:00 PM (same day) Paris (CET): 8:00 PM (same day) Tokyo (JST): 4:00 AM (next day) Sydney (AEDT): 6:00 AM (next day)

Frequently Asked Questions

The world is divided into 24 standard time zones, each roughly 15ยฐ of longitude wide. UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is the base reference. Zones east of UTC add hours (UTC+1 to UTC+12), zones west subtract (UTC-1 to UTC-12). Some zones use half-hour or 45-minute offsets (India UTC+5:30, Nepal UTC+5:45).

DST is the practice of advancing clocks by 1 hour in spring and reverting in autumn to extend evening daylight. About 70 countries use DST. The US and Canada observe it from March to November. The EU from March to October. Many countries near the equator do not use DST.

EST (Eastern Standard Time) is UTC-5, used from November to March. EDT (Eastern Daylight Time) is UTC-4, used from March to November during daylight saving time. The same applies to other US zones: CST/CDT, MST/MDT, PST/PDT.

Find overlapping business hours by converting each participant's local working hours (typically 9am-5pm) to a common time zone. For US/UK meetings, 2-5pm GMT (9am-12pm EST) works well. For US/Asia, early morning US or late evening Asia is usually necessary.
